Up until a few weeks ago, Visme was a great tool for creating tables in the form of infographics, such as the one seen below, which can be easily customized with your own information.
What was lacking, however, was a tool designed specifically for generating tables of any size or color, depending on your needs.
In response to a growing demand for the ability to create tables for any project–including presentations and reports, not just infographics–Visme recently introduced a new feature that allows you to do just that.
In this short tutorial, we’ll show you how to make the most of this feature and apply it to all your content creation needs.
(Below, you’ll find the video version of this tutorial as well.)
Before creating your table in Visme, gather all your data in one place and organize it into rows and columns. Or, if you have a list, make sure your know what information will be inserted into each cell.
As with all visual content formats, it’s always best to have the least amount of text as possible–so make it short and sweet.
First, select the Charts and Data Widgets tool from the panel on the left side of your screen.
Then, choose the Tables option found at the top right of the docked panel on the left side of your screen, and select the number of rows and columns you desire, as seen above.
If you want to add or delete any rows or columns, all you have to do is select any cell and click on the arrows that appear below and to the right of it. In the menu that appears, you’ll find the option to either add or delete a row or column.
Next, insert your data by clicking once on the table that appears and then on the desired cell. When you the see the cursor appear, type in your data for that specific cell.
Remember to avoid inserting entire paragraphs of information, as this reduces the impact and effectiveness of your visual content. After all, no one wants to see long paragraphs of text on your slides or infographic!
To adjust the size of your table, simply click on the re-size handles and drag and drop them to obtain the desired height and width.
Then, if you want to adjust the width and height of a column or row, click on any cell within that column or row and drag and drop the re-size arrows until you obtain the desired size.
If you don’t have the time to select a specific color scheme for your table, you can also choose from one of the predefined schemes available within Visme.
Simply click on the Themes button found on the toolbar at the top of your screen and select one of the options from the drop-down menu to apply it to your table.
You can choose from six different color schemes or choose the “Clear” option, which makes your table transparent, except for the cell borders.
You can also apply your own color scheme to your table by selecting a cell, row or column and clicking on the Paint Bucket found on the toolbar at the top of your screen to apply the desired color.
You can choose either from one of the colors saved in your global color palette or one of the colors found in the “Presets” tab.
In the latter, you’ll find 50 original beautiful color combinations you can apply to any of your projects. (For ideas on how to use each one, consult this quick guide.)
To change the font style and size of all the text, click on the table and select your desired typeface and size from the toolbar at the top of your screen. If you want to change the style and size of the text contained within a specific cell, simply select the table and double click on the cell to select the text and apply the desired font.
As with any other element in Visme, you can apply hyperlinks to any text in your table. These can be linked either to a website, another slide in your project or an object in your canvas area that can be set to appear when the user clicks on the hyperlink. (The latter is called a hotspot. You can learn more about how to create hotspots within Visme here.)
Finally, if you want to apply a border, you can also click on the table and choose a border style from the pop-up menu that appears on your screen.
Then, choose a style from the drop-down menu under Border Properties. You can choose from a variety of styles, including a solid, ridged, dashed or double line.
Next, you can make your chart border thicker or rounder by using the slider to achieve the desired look or manually inserting the number of pixels, as seen above.
Also, you can change the color of your cell borders by simply selecting a particular row, column or the entire table and clicking on the Outline button from the menu at the top of your screen.
From the drop-down menu, you can choose from any of the previously used colors in your global color palette or one of the 50 beautiful color combination presets included within Visme.
