Navigating the world of online marketing can quickly become a daunting task if you’re new to today’s fast-paced digital landscape.

This is why Derek Archer started his own digital marketing agency in 2015 to help businesses stand out in a crowded online world. One of the many moving pieces of the comprehensive digital strategies that he designs for his clients are custom graphics for social media and printable banners for events.

After using Visme to implement a scalable graphic design process within his team, he realized that he could significantly reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks and increase the productivity of his design team by up to 75%.

We had a chance to speak with Derek to find out more about how his team uses Visme to create custom graphics for his clients in a fraction of the time it takes with traditional tools. Here is what he had to say in his own words:

Tell us a bit about your digital marketing agency, Hit Your Mark Media.

Hit Your Mark Media is a HubSpot digital marketing agency that focuses on two key things: building websites and driving traffic to them. What differentiates us from other agencies is that professionals on our team excel in various areas of digital marketing, so we as an agency can bring all those moving parts into one comprehensive strategy.

What tool or software was your team using before to create visual content? Why did you switch?

For every tool we adopt, there’s a certain threshold of criteria that it needs to meet in order for us to accept it into our arsenal. So, it’s got to be: 1) versatile; 2) a fairly simple, intuitive tool; 3) and it has to have a good cost point.

Advanced tools like Adobe are not really very intuitive. For example, if I need to create social media graphics, I don’t need a graphic designer and Adobe is overkill for designing something like that.

I played around with Canva. It’s very simple but not very versatile, so we weren’t happy with how creative we could be. Even the paid version didn’t add a whole lot of functionality.

We also played around with Adobe Spark. We love Adobe Spark, but it’s really the best tool for creating beautiful social media graphics really quickly, but you have to give up versatility.

I chose Visme because it was the happy cross-section of all those three criteria.

What positive business results have you seen from using Visme?

Visme saves us hours of work—about 75% of the time we spend per custom graphic.

In terms of costs, if I pay a graphic designer $50/hour and they spent two hours on a graphic, that's 100 bucks I just saved. That's a half-year's worth subscription to Visme right there. So it's a no-brainer in my book.

Visme really shines when it comes to creating branding for customers and having it all in one place so you can create copies of projects, tweak just one aspect and easily embed a graphic on a site with a snippet of code to get around corporate restrictions.

The beauty of Visme is that it is cloud-based so users can create their own variations of a project. I look for a project, make a copy of it, modify a part and then publish it on a site. It helps us tremendously when it comes to speeding up repetitive tasks.

What types of visual marketing material is your team creating with Visme?

For things that require custom graphics and custom tweaking, we still have graphic designers who swear by Adobe and that’s great; those are the clients who are going to pay more money to have us design a logo for them and that’s fine.

Where Visme really shines is in all of the workflows where our clients want us to put together a blog, dress it up, include some graphics, create social sharing campaigns, and emails that have a blog graphic or infographic.

We love that Visme allows you to publish as an HTML5 interactive document, as a PPT file or as a PDF so we can do some actual print graphic design in Visme.

We’ve designed business cards, graphic cards and even created an entire 6-foot tall banner in Visme. Clients seem to be really happy with the work and our learning curve has been greatly reduced.

Which Visme features have made your work a lot easier?

One of my absolute favorite features in Visme is the ability to crop an image to a shape—I love that feature. With just two clicks of a button, I can make an image fit to the shape.

I really love how easy it is to turn on background transparency with just a click of a button. Truly nice. Canva charges for that, but Visme offers it in the free version.

Also, I like how easy it is to add a drop shadow to an object with the click of a button.

Would you recommend Visme to others? If so, why would you recommend it?

Visme has saved a ton of time on initial design. It’s an easy tool to use, has a ton of pre-built things to work with. I don’t have to search for icons or download images. That’s really nice that Visme has brought all these assets together.
