how a content manager is using visme to create infographics

Monica Montgomery is a content manager at OMNI Health Media, a leading multimedia publisher of health-related information. As a communication specialist with little training in design, she was in need of a site that could make the process of creating interactive infographics a whole lot easier.

After some searching online and comparing sites, she decided to sign up for Visme. She was pleasantly surprised with the way it met her content creation needs, so we decided to interview her to find out more about her experience.

Tell us a bit about your organization.

OMNI Health Media is a leading specialty website developer and publisher of consumer health information. By incorporating content expertise with social media and web-based programming, OMNI is uniquely qualified to develop and distribute multimedia health education content and social media programming for a variety of health conditions.

The mission of OMNI Health Media is to connect individuals with the most current, comprehensive health information and with others in similar situations. OMNI Health Media produces and manages Women Magazine, CancerConnect.com, TheRAConnection, TheGIConnection, aWomansHealth.com, and The Web Chat with the Expert interactive series featuring thought leaders from institutions such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering, John Hopkins, Yale, and other prominent health centers.

What is your involvement in these initiatives?

I have been working at OMNI since the spring of 2015. Currently, I assist in managing content for our websites and content across social media platforms.

What distinguishes your expertise from others in your field?

Honestly, I would say that simply staying on task and keeping pace with such enormous websites and the information that is stored therein would be the most distinguishable area of working with OMNI. As oncology news (and health related news in general) is in a constant state of flux, staying informed on the latest breakthroughs and news items is of utmost importance, as well as creating content that is informative and original.

How did you hear about Visme?

I found out about Visme through a couple of blogs as I was searching for an interactive infographic template sort of website. I can say that I looked at several other companies before deciding on Visme.

quote1.2

The bottom line is that considering the vast amount of content on the web, it is imperative to create original content while also keeping costs down in doing so.

Tell us about your project.

Well, I am really new to this graphic design game. I’ve learned that: a) graphic design is much harder than it looks, so b) how nice it is to have someone else (Visme) do most of the work for you if you choose!

visme infographic templates

My first attempt at using Visme was to design my own infographic without using a template, and I can’t say I hit a home run on that first attempt. I contacted Visme with a question I had, and they emailed me back with an answer and asked to take a look at my project, so I sent it to them. Surprisingly, they got back to me expediently and praised me for me first attempt while also giving me tips on how it could look better. Since then, I’ve created some real duds, but some of them are passable. I’m learning every time I use it.

What feature/functions do you like most?

If I would just use the infographic templates, I am sure I would absolutely love those as there are so many to choose from, but the choice to make your own is what really sold me on Visme.

quote2.1
I like how you can create whatever size canvas you want. I like the grid, although I find it difficult to figure out sometimes.

Would you recommend Visme to others?

The price is right. It’s fun. (Yes, I said FUN! It is fun to create even if you miss the boat with the finished project!) And there are things you can do with Visme that I bet I don’t even know yet, or haven’t had the time to check out. Looking forward to learning more about them.

What feature/functions do you think could be improved?

1. I wish that you could create space in between letters of text to elongate or smoosh the words.

2. It would be nice to be able to create your own shapes, instead of just circle, square, etc.

3. To mirror images.

4. More icons. Very picky about icons.

5. It would be nice to shape text. Like if I had a couple of words of text and wanted to turn them into a half circle.
